Urban Roots is a community Market Garden and Education Hub, including Polmadie Plots is a 2 acre site comprising community allotments, space for growing food to sell locally and a workshop space.
Polmadie Plots has been set up to enable Urban Roots to generate sustainable sources of income through sales of produce and value added products.
It also aims to provide a learning and educational resource for all thing low impact and sustainable.
We work with local people, volunteers and other community groups in a collaborative way to further the aims of the project. This may be through drop in groups, workshops and courses or programmes with local schools.
Many of the people we work with are maginalised in society. Some have additional learning needs, or are struggling with addictions or mental illness. Involvement in the project provides a therapeutic outlet for our participants.
Polmadie Plots is a relatively new project, but Urban Roots has over 7 years experience of urban food growing and working with volunteers.
